Who we serve · 03

Entrepreneurs

Everything went back into the business, which was the right call and is the reason it worked. What that leaves is a balance sheet where one illiquid, unlisted, uninsurable asset is nearly all of it, and a personal financial position that has had no attention for years because there was always something more urgent.

What people in this position ask

On the first call
  • How much should I be taking out, and in what form?
  • Salary or dividend, and what does that do to my pension?
  • Can I use the company pension to shelter income, and how far?
  • If I sold tomorrow, what would I actually keep?
  • What should I own that is not this company?
  • I have no idea what I would live on if this stopped. Where do I start?

None of these has a general answer. Every one of them turns on facts about you, which is why the first thing that happens is a conversation rather than a recommendation.

What actually makes this hard

The honest version
  1. 01

The asset cannot be sold in pieces

A listed portfolio can be trimmed. A company cannot. That makes diversification something you build alongside it over time rather than something you do in an afternoon.

  2. 02

    Your pension is probably underused

Swiss occupational pension rules give business owners real room, and buy-ins can be efficient at a high marginal rate. They also lock capital up, which for a founder is exactly the wrong direction if the business needs it.

  3. 03

Nothing is scheduled, so nothing happens

Personal financial decisions have no deadline attached, which is why they lose every week to decisions that do.

What our fee means here

We are paid on the gain of what we advise on, so building a portfolio slowly out of drawings does not carry a fee in the periods where nothing has yet grown.

Every term of the fee

If this is you, the first call costs nothing.

Thirty minutes. You describe the position, we tell you what we would do and what it would cost, and one legitimate outcome is that you do not need MB Financial Advisory at all. Our fee is 10% of the gain, so a conversation that leads nowhere leads to no invoice either.
