After a life change
Something happened, and a sum of money is now your responsibility that was not before. It arrived attached to an event you would not have chosen, at a point when you have the least appetite for decisions, and everyone around you has an opinion about what you should do with it.
What people in this position ask
On the first call- Do I have to decide anything right now?
- What is the actual figure, after everything that comes off it?
- Is any of this taxable, and when?
- Pension assets were split. What do I now have?
- How do I stop this being eroded while I work out what I want?
- Who is giving me advice here because it suits them?
None of these has a general answer. Every one of them turns on facts about you, which is why the first thing that happens is a conversation rather than a recommendation.
What actually makes this hard
The honest version- 01
The pressure to act is the risk
Almost nothing about a lump sum has to be decided in the first month, and almost everyone will suggest otherwise. Doing nothing deliberately, for a stated period, is a legitimate plan.
- 02
The figure is rarely the figure
Tax, outstanding obligations and split pension entitlements sit between the headline number and what is actually yours. Establishing that first prevents planning around a sum that does not exist.
- 03
You are the most valuable client a salesperson will meet this year
A visible lump sum attracts product. This is the situation where an adviser paid by a provider and an adviser paid by you diverge the most sharply.
No gain, no fee also means no fee for the period where the right answer is to leave it alone and take your time. That is deliberate.
Every term of the feeWe are not lawyers or tax advisers. Where a matter belongs with one, we say so and stop, rather than answering around the edge of it.
If this is you, the first call costs nothing.
Thirty minutes. You describe the position, we tell you what we would do and what it would cost, and one legitimate outcome is that you do not need MB Financial Advisory at all. Our fee is 10% of the gain, so a conversation that leads nowhere leads to no invoice either.
