MB Financial Advisory is an independent financial advisory firm in Bottighofen. We are small on purpose, and the argument for working with a firm this size is not that we are cleverer than a bank. It is that our incentives are simpler and our claims are checkable.
Why independent
A bank both manufactures products and advises on them. That is not a scandal; it is a structure, and the structure has a direction. An independent manager sells no products of its own, which removes the question of whose interest a recommendation serves without anyone having to be virtuous about it.
Independence also has to be shown rather than asserted. Ours shows up in three specific places: assets held at your own broker or platform, a published fee scale with a worked total, and a written policy on retrocessions that reads the same on the fees page as in the conflicts policy.
Where those three things are vague, the word "independent" is doing no work.
